The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee (www.elephants.com) was founded in 1995. Thanks to the support of so many caring individuals the Sanctuary has been able to expand to 2700 acres and provide a safe haven for a total of 24 needy elephants.
The former circus elephants rescued in February of 2006 are recovering beautifully and taking full advantage of all the Sanctuary offers. We had already rescued 3 from this herd: Delhi, Lota and Misty. This rescue was particularly urgent since failing would mean that the elephants would have been separated and sent to unsuitable homes in circuses and zoos. All 11 of these elephants including Minnie, Lottie, Queenie, Liz, Debbie, Ronnie, Billie and Frieda were captured as babies in the wild and have been forced to live a life of subservience to man. Now is their chance to enjoy space and freedom of choice at The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee.
The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee is able to accommodate 100 or more elephants rescued from circuses and zoos.
